Here are the details of the kit you will need on our courses, assessments and if you go out with one of our Leaders.
Trail Cycle Leader Training
- SMBLA Training Manual and registration number
- Suitable Mountain Bike (in good working condition)
- Cycle helmet and gloves
- Cycle computer in kilometres
- Eye Protection
- Suitable clothing for a day's cycle ride
- Backpack, with spare clothing
- Small tool kit, including pump and inner tubes
- Food and drink (including lunch)
- First Aid Kit
- Suntan Lotion and Insect Repellent
- Permanent pen for writing on maps
- Compass (maps will be provided)
Mountain Bike Leader Training
- SMBLA Training Manual and registration number
- Suitable Mountain Bike (in good working condition)
- Cycle helmet and gloves
- Cycle computer in kilometres
- Eye Protection
- Suitable clothing for a day's cycle ride
- Backpack, with spare clothing etc which is suitable for this level of award
- Tool kit, to include what you feel is suitable for MBL terrain
- Food and drink (including lunch)
- First Aid Kit
- Suntan Lotion and Insect Repellent
- Permanent pen for writing on maps
- Compass (maps will be provided)
Night Riding Module Training
- SMBLA Training Manual and registration number
- Suitable Mountain Bike (in good working condition)
- Night Ride Lights
- Cycle helmet and gloves
- Cycle computer in kilometres
- EYE PROTECTION - you will not be allowed to ride without this
- Suitable clothing for a night ride
- Backpack, with spare clothing
- Tool kit
- Drink for when you are out on the bike and food to eat at teatime
- First Aid Kit
- Permanent pen for writing on maps
- Compass (maps will be provided)
SMBLA Assessments
Prepare and carry with you what you consider to be suitable for the day as if you were the only leader, including your lunch. Maps will be provided.
Bike Hire with an Instructor
- Water bottle - full of non-fizzy drink, minimum one litre per half day
- Gloves
- Long-sleeved top, must cover elbows (eg long sleeve T-shirt or fleece depending on weather)
- Suitable trousers, NOT JEANS, must cover knees (eg tracksuit bottoms, cycling leggings)
- Waterproof jacket
- Footwear (eg trainers, cross-trainers, walking shoes)
- Backpack (between 2 or 3 riders)
- Suntan Lotion and Insect Repellent
- Food, depending on duration but to incude 1 or 2 high energy foods eg banana, energy bar
- Hat and extra warm clothes (October to March)
- Personal medication, if required
We recommend that leaders bring extra water to the start point
We provide the helmets.
